Not necessarily.

A recent European smartphone will generally work with Vietnamese networks.

However, before you leave, check two things:

1. The phone must be unlocked.

It must be able to accept a SIM from another operator.

2. Check eSIM compatibility if you want to keep your French SIM simultaneously.

Recent models from iPhone, Samsung, and other manufacturers frequently offer this option.
